Guide to Frankfurt for Business Travellers

Guide to Frankfurt for Business Travellers

With an excellent range of transport options, a wealth of meeting and conference venues, and a wide range of cultural and leisure activities, Frankfurt is an ideal location for business travellers. This guide has everything you need from how to get around the city, how to fill any spare time between meetings, to a note on how to travel more sustainably.

Getting Around

Frankfurt airport is Germany’s largest international air traffic hub offering the most intercontinental destinations. With 83 airlines taking off for 283 destinations, Frankfurt serves as a central location for business travel. However, why not consider rail over flying? Our ESG executive Ellen Mutimer recently swapped wings for wheels, having a sustainable and seamless experience. In her recent blog, she touched on how opting for rail for these European trips cuts emissions by 90%.

Once in Frankfurt, public transport links are a fantastic way to get around the city. The S-Bahn trains connect the airport, city centre and outer districts. Lines S8 and S9 take just 12 minutes to get from the main train station to the airport. Lines S1-S6 and S8 also run through the night to help you get home. The U-Bahn  underground metro runs frequently and is perfect for short hops between venues. Regardless of where you need to get to, Frankfurt’s public transport has you covered. You can buy single tickets, day passes or the Frankfurt Card, offering unlimited public transport plus discounts at popular attractions.

Things To Do:

If you find yourself with any spare time between meetings, the city has a wealth of opportunities to explore. From unique architecture and diverse museums to bustling shopping scenes and beautiful parks, Frankfurt, for business travellers, is a perfect place to mix work and leisure.

Even the busiest schedules can allow for a quick dip into Frankfurt’s culture. Take a quick stroll through the DomRömer Quarter, the city’s carefully reconstructed old town. The cobbled streets, thriving cafés, and historic facades will transport you back in time without straying far from the business district. If you find yourself near the river, take a short walk along the Museumsufer to get a glimpse of some of Germany’s finest museums.

If you’ve got a bit more time, Frankfurt has a plethora of rich cultural and culinary experiences. The Kleinmarkthalle is a foodie’s paradise, with almost 160 stalls serving both local delicacies and international flavours. For a local experience, hop aboard the quirky Ebbelwei-Express, a vintage tram tour complete with apple wine and pretzels. What a fun and relaxed way to see the city’s landmarks! Or, if your business trip runs over the weekend, explore the Schaumainkai flea market, where you can find unique stalls and river views.

When business wraps up for the day, Frankfurt comes alive with opportunities to unwind. Take a stroll down Berger Straße – Frankfurt’s longest shopping street. The upper part offers a colourful bouquet of options, from delicious restaurants, lively pubs and elegant cocktail bars.

If it’s outdoor time you’re after, visit Frankfurt City Forest. Just 15-minutes outside of the centre, the forest has a 450-kilometre network of hiking, running and cycling trails.
